A marriage that began in Independence now stands before the Circuit Court of Jackson County, reduced to declarations and requests for relief. JEFFREY REMINGTON has petitioned to dissolve his marriage to JENNIFER REMINGTON, invoking the court’s authority to end what he describes as an irretrievably broken union.

The petition was filed February 19, 2026. It states that the petitioner has resided in Missouri for more than ninety days preceding the filing, while the respondent has resided in Kansas since December 25, 2025. The parties were married on or about September 28, 2019, in Independence, Missouri, with the marriage registered in Jackson County. They separated on or around December 25, 2025. Neither party, the filing notes, is a member of the Armed Forces of the United States or its allies.

Property and debt are addressed in deliberate terms. The petition asserts that each party brought certain non-marital assets and debts into the marriage and asks that those be set aside to the respective owner. It further states that marital property and debts were accumulated during the marriage and requests a fair and equitable distribution, or alternatively, approval of any marital settlement agreement the parties may reach. The petitioner indicates that each party should be responsible for his or her own attorney fees and litigation costs, but asks that the respondent be ordered to pay reasonable fees if she unnecessarily prolongs the proceedings.

The filing concludes with a request for such other relief as the court deems just and proper. In mid-February, when the routines of a new year begin to settle and decisions taken in private move into formal channels, such petitions become part of the public ledger. The court’s task is not to narrate the past but to record its legal end, assigning property and responsibility in a manner prescribed by statute and procedure.
