On June 20, 2024, Brenda Carol Alfred filed for the dissolution of her marriage to Paul Handel Alfred in the Circuit Court of Jackson County, Missouri. Both parties have been residents of Jackson County for more than ninety days preceding the filing. Brenda and Paul were married on an unspecified date and later separated. The union, registered in Lee’s Summit, has reached an irretrievable breakdown due to irreconcilable differences, with no hope for reconciliation.
Brenda is not currently pregnant, and there have been no previous legal proceedings involving the custody of the couple’s children. Brenda and Paul are seeking joint legal and physical custody of their minor children, with Brenda’s residence designated for mailing and educational purposes. The petitioner requests that Paul provide child support and that both parents share the costs of the children’s medical expenses.
Brenda and Paul have accumulated marital property and debts, and Brenda seeks a fair and equitable division of these assets and liabilities. She also requests that each party retains their respective non-marital property and debts. No maintenance is sought by either party, and Brenda proposes that each should bear their own attorney’s fees and litigation costs, except in cases where Paul might intentionally extend the litigation process.
Brenda requests the restoration of her maiden name, Scott, and prays for the court’s judgment to dissolve the marriage, award custody as proposed, and approve a fair distribution of marital assets and debts. Representing Brenda Carol Alfred in this matter is Ryan J. Shernaman of RS Law, L.L.C., located in Overland Park, Kansas.
