In Cook County, Illinois, Sebastine Oluwaseun Gbeji has initiated divorce proceedings against Vera Chioma Gbeji, citing irreconcilable differences after 15 years of marriage. The couple, who were married on October 27, 2009, in Lagos, Nigeria, has been separated since November 16, 2017. According to the petitioner, past attempts at reconciliation have failed, and further efforts would be impractical and not in the best interest of the family.
Sebastine Gbeji, currently residing in Calumet City, Illinois, is representing himself in the case. The couple shares two children, ages 13 and 11, and no further children were born or adopted during the marriage. Both parties agree that neither is financially dependent on the other, with all marital assets valued at less than $1,000 after debts are deducted. As part of the divorce petition, Sebastine seeks to end the marriage without any claims to spousal support.
The petition, filed on September 17, 2024, formally begins the legal process to dissolve the marriage. Sebastine is asking the court to dissolve the bond of matrimony and allocate property and debts equitably.
